Italian fashion house Fendi was established by Adele Casagrande in 1918. A marriage to Edoardo Fendi brought to a name change and the business of the company well-known today as Fendi, in 1925.

Fendi was started as a boutique in Rome that specialized in leather and furs. The company did well and boutiques outside Rome were started out in the 1930s and 1940s. In 1946, the daughters of Adele and Edoardo joined up with the family business and introduced unique ideas for the products. The daughters fixed a meeting with an upcoming designer in Paris who would be a part of the company and take it in interesting new recommendations: Karl Lagerfeld.

Lagerfeld started working with Fendi in 1965 and created the house's first ready-to-wear fur set in 1969. The line highlighted contemporary shapes and revolutionary approaches with fur and leather.

Fendi is well known for their bags, chief among them the "baguette" style, but the company shifted into ready-to-wear lines in 1977. The fashion lines extended in the 1980s and 1990s to eventually incorporate menswear, denim, gifts, eyeglasses, and perfumes.

The first Fendi perfume, Fendi for Women, was introduced in 1985. Fendi Uomo appeared in 1988. A set of perfumes were released during the 1990s and 21st century, with Fan di Fendi the latest perfume in the line.

Fendi clothing and perfumes are made in combination with high-class-goods conglomerate LVMH.

Designer Fendi has 28 perfumes. The first edition was launched in 1985 and the latest is from 2015. Fendi perfumes were produced in a venture with perfumers Jean Guichard, Francois Demachy, Christine Nagel, Jean-Pierre BÈthouart, Jacques Cavallier, Thierry Wasser, Annick Menardo, Benoist Lapouza, Delphine Lebeau-Krowiak, and Delphine Lebeau.
