In 1921, the fashion house of Gucci was launched by Guccio Gucci. Influenced by the gorgeous luggage he had seen tourists carrying while doing work at the Savoy Hotel in London, Gucci came back to Florence with an aim of mixing the refined style of the rich travelers he noticed with the fine craftsmanship of classic Florentine artisans.

The company's equestrian-styled excellent leather products were in high demand, and when leather was scarce during the time of World War 2, Gucci's revolutionary use of linen, hemp, and jute extended the brand's aesthetic. Guccio Gucci died in 1953 but after his death, his sons and grandson supervise the successful growth of the company into a luxury products manufacturer popular all around the world. The company's trademark "GG" logo was implemented in the sixties.

The company's 1st perfume, Gucci No 1 for women, was launched in 1974. Since then a collection of perfumes for men and women have been introduced. Tom Ford worked as a creator director of Gucci fragrance in middle of the nineties through the early twenty-first century. Since 2005, Frida Giannini, as a creative director has been at the leadership.

The very first edition was released in 1974 and the latest is from 2017.
